World Wine 2004 Zonnebloem Pinotage

Stellenbosch, South Africa Pinotage is the signature grape of South Africa, the result of crossing Cinsault with Pinot Noir back in 1925. According to John Platter in his Guide to South African Wines, Zonnebloem is "one of the Cape s best selling upper market Pinotages." Zonnebloem Pinotage is a bright, deep garnet red in color, with a nose of plums, spice and earth. Medium in body with moderate acidity, the wine offers flavors of jammy plum, cherry, spice and earth. Aged 9-12 months in oak, it is softly balanced with ripe, complex fruit flavors and a long, smooth finish. Enjoy Zonnebloem Pinotage with ripe aromatic cheeses, spicy meats and barbecue.
