Colli Orientali del Friuli, Italy Rocca Bernarda Tocai Friulano is a delightfully refreshing white wine from the eastern Friuli region of northeast Italy. Tocai Friulano is the most widely planted and popular varietal in Friuli, but it is relatively scarce in the U.S. The Rocca Bernarda estate has been home to vineyards since Roman times, and that experience shows in the glass. Since 1977, the magnificent castle and property of Rocca Bernarda have been owned by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, founded 900 years ago in Jerusalem to defend the Holy Land. Today, the Order coordinates thousands of volunteers from all over the world in charitable and welfare-related initiatives to provide help and assistance to the weak and suffering. The farming businesses owned by the Order are conducted with the purpose of furthering those aims.
