World Wine 2004 Peitan Albarino

Rias Baixas, Spain Peitan Albariño is a delightful white wine that is the perfect accompaniment to seafood. We find this grape varietal is Spain s answer to the Viognier grape of Condrieu fame. This is the first release of this stainless-steel fermented wine, created by winemaker Alistair Gardner for Vina Nora. The winery is owned by Javier Allen, the well-respected Galician producer of Vina Mein, and Victor Rodriguez, former director of Vino y Gastronomia. Peitan Albarino is amber in color with an aromatic nose of honeysuckle, peach, apple, hazelnut, and mineral notes. Full-bodied with moderate acidity, it is a dry wine with a perceived sweetness of fruit. It offers flavors of peaches, apricots, lemon, honeysuckle and pears, with no oak. It is beautifully balanced to enjoy in its youth, over the next 3-4 years. The wine coats the palate on the finish with long-lasting flavors.
