Loire, France Producer Cave de Saumur made a beautiful Loire red of 100% Cabernet Franc grapes from the single vineyard "Les Poyeux," historically recognized for its high potential to produce memorable wines. The appellation is Saumur Champigny, located to the west of Saumur in the Loire region of France. Wine Spectator rated the 2003 vintage of this wine 90 points. Very limited! Cave de Saumur Saumur Champigny "Les Poyeux" is garnet red in color with a nose of blackberries, boysenberries, cassis, green pepper, smoke and mineral notes. The wine is medium-full in body with ripe acidity, firm tannins, solid structure, and bold flavors of berries, black currant, and tobacco. It is well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 4-5 years. The wine has a long, smoky finish.
