World Wine 2003 Monarchia Noir

Eger, Hungary Monarchia Noir is an exciting new wine featuring the signature red grape varietal of Hungary, Kekfrankos. Hand-crafted by Monarchia s Head Winemaker Tamas Pok, this 100% Kekfrankos (Blaufrankisch) varietal can be thought of as a Pinot Noir with attitude! This Gamay-type clone is a distant relative of the Pinot Noir, hence the name of the wine, Noir. Monarchia Noir is soft garnet red in color with medium body. Flavors of cherries and berries mingle with hints of chocolate, making this wine easy on the palate. It is ready to be enjoyed young, over the next 4-5 years. Monarchia Noir is great with pasta, veal, chicken, pork, grilled and fried fish, and even holds up well with beef.
