World Wine 2003 Buckeley s Shiraz

South Australia RATED 87 POINTS AND EXCEPTIONAL VALUE BY ROBERT PARKER ON 10-31-05 Buckeley s Shiraz is a fine expression of the premiere red grape varietal from Down Under. Buckeley s is a relative newcomer to the Australian wine business, established in 1997. Rob Dundon is the winemaker. In contrast to the "over-the-top" style of big, full-bodied, high-alcohol Aussie reds, this Shiraz is made to be enjoyed with food. The 2003 vintage is another good success in South Australia, and this one s a winner. Buckeley s Shiraz is deep ruby red in color, medium in body with moderate acidity and soft tannins. Bright, spicy aromas of blackberries, plums, and black tea are followed by flavors of blackberries, cherries, white pepper and vanilla. The wine was aged 9 months in American oak. Well balanced to enjoy young, this is a food-friendly wine with a soft, pleasant finish. Enjoy Buckeley s Shiraz with pepper steak, BBQ ribs, burgers, pastas, grilled chicken and cheeses.
