Tuscany, Italy Geografico Contessa di Radda Chianti Classico is a fine example of this appellation from the excellent 2001 vintage, scoring an 89-point rating from our Tasting Panel. The distinctive richness and quality of this Geografico Chianti Classico is a result of grape production limited to a small group of select grower-members and extensive riserva-style barrel aging (18 months in oak). This wine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. Geografico Contessa di Radda Chianti Classico is deep ruby red in color, medium-bodied with soft tannins and ripe fruit. Intensely aromatic of dark berry, cherry, leather and violets, layers of concentrated flavors unfold over a firm, mineral acidity, buoyed by superb structure, balance and fine tannic grip. Well balanced to enjoy over the next 7-8 years as it improves with cellaring. Rich and smooth on the finish.
