World Wine 2000 Townshend Merlot

Columbia Valley, Washington Townshend Merlot is produced by the family-owned Townshend Cellar from fruit harvested from vineyards in Prosser and Pasco in the Columbia Valley of Washington state. Our January 2005 Tasting Panel rated it 90 points. Only 340 cases produced. Townshend Merlot is dark ruby red in color with medium-full body and aromas of plums, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, mocha, and toasty oak. Dry, smooth and polished, with moderate acidity, this classy red offers rich flavors of blackberry, raspberry, plum, chocolate, and spice. Aged for 25 months in small French and American oak barrels, it is well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 7-8 years. The wine lingers nicely on the long, complex finish. Enjoy Townshend Merlot with roast beef, roasted lamb chops, hearty pasta, and cheeses.
