Tuscany, Italy Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino is an excellent Brunello from the superb 1999 vintage in Tuscany. The Mastrojanni 1997 Brunello is still remembered as one of the best we tasted at VinItaly in April of 2002. Wine Spectator later rated it a 92, and Gambero Rosso judged the wine worthy of its "three glasses" honor. That classic vintage is now sold out. But the 1999 is still available, and it is truly excellent! The Consorzio del Vino di Montalcino, in Tuscany, has declared 1999 Brunello a 4 out of 5 star vintage making it one of the better vintages of all-time. Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino is deep garnet red in color, with a gorgeous nose of berries, black cherries, violets and mineral notes. Medium/full in body with moderate acidity and firm tannins, the wine offers rich flavors of cherries, black raspberries and cedar. An elegant food wine, it is well balanced in fruit,acidity, and tannin, and will reward 10-12 years in cellar. This wine delivers a long and supple finish. Mastroja
