World Wine 1997 Mastrojanni San Pio "Super Tuscan"

Tuscany, Italy THIS IS NOT A MISSPRINT. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1997 VINTAGE SUPER TUSCAN FROM MASTROJANNI AT THE PRICE OFFERED in 2000 WHEN RELEASED. STORED PERFECTLY AT THE WINERY AND NOW HERE AS OF MARCH 20, 2006. LIMIT 12 MAX PER CLIENT. San Pio is made from 75% Sangiovese Grosso and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Montalcino region of Tuscany by one of the most respected Brunello producers, Mastrojanni. The wine exhibits broad dark aromas of ripe black cherry fruit with black pepper, smoke and polished leather. Prolonged maceration on the skins and 1 year aging in French and Slavonian oak barrels result in a rich, full, smooth wine with remarkable complexity. What is most special is that the wine was built for cellaring and we have done just that for the past 7 years. The consensus panel tasted this wine in February of 2006 and rated it an impressive 94 points!! You may recall that Wine Spectator rated the 1997 vintage a near perfect 99 points for Tuscany overall.
